Bette Dam (1979) lived in Kabul from 2009 to 2014, working as a correspondent for NRC Handelsblad and the Wereldomroep. She often serves as an expert on terrorism for CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera and Nieuwsuur and publishes in, among others, Vrij Nederland, The Guardian and Intercept. Dam is a guest lecturer at the UvA, the London School of Economics and Science Po (Paris).
In 2009, Expedition Uruzgan, her debut, was published to much critical acclaim. It was translated to Dari, Pashtun and English as A Man and a Motorcycle. She is currently working on her second book, The Enemy that We Created, which will be published by the Bezige Bij in 2018.
