Joke Huisman has been writing all her life. First as a translator, then as a journalist with, amongst others, NRC Handelsblad. Later in life she worked at the Scientific Council for Government Policy, acted as a facilitator of conferences, symposiums and expert meetings, and with her own bureau she transformed jargon into ordinary, understandable language. She also published a non-fiction book at Ambo|Anthos publishers about women in men's professions. Recently, she followed a course at the Schrijversvakschool (the writer's school) and she is currently working on her debut novel De Stiefweduwe (The Step-widow).
